| the painkillers are obviously not working |
| |
| haha never thought i'd succumb to painkillers. the plan for today initially was to go out shopping for ingredients today so that i can cook dinner for the family early enough so that i can meet bao for a haircut at 7. but i just woke up and it's 3pm. last night i went to bed at 3am but only managed to sleep at 6am because of my stupid throbbing thumb. i had no idea it'd hurt that bad, cmon it's just a cut -.- but the whole night it was excruciating pain la. i was damn tempted to rip off the bandage cos the pressure applied was damn intense (so that the wound would be "anchored down"). had painkillers at 6am. i suppose that made the pain more bearable. had to wake up again in the afternoon to have both antibiotics and painkillers and since mom says that antibiotics have to be consumed with food if not i'd get gastric flu, i had brunch in bed. was otah (the malaysian kind, the one in blocks) and sausage with rice. okay la so i think i won't be cooking today la cos there's really no time. also i'm quite certain that i'd accidentally wet my bandage if i cook. haha it's quite apt that the gourmet issue that i borrowed this week has this article on cooking with only one hand, but nah i don't think my case is that serious except that the bandage cannot touch water. doctor says my finger will rot if it does. anyway! on to brighter and better things, i decided to cook through a cookbook this year, meaning that i make EVERY SINGLE RECIPE IN IT. how exciting is that. hahaha in the process of selecting which cookbook actually. candidates: 1. the cook's book a really comprehensive guide written by world-class chefs like pierre herme, ken hom etc etc. it covers everything from the basics (making hardboiled eggs) to the more tedious (making charlottes). 2. mastering the art of french cooking HAHA JULIE/JULIA. i don't think this is a healthy option considering how the french use damn alot of cream/butter in their cooking. 3. les halles cookbook that i'm gonna get soon on french bistro cooking, written by anthony bourdain firstly these books were chosen because they have both savory and sweet stuff. i realise that many cookbooks in my possession are dessert cookbooks because i was damn insane over baking in the past. these books include the cake bible, the sweet spot, pastries from la brea bakery, how to be a domestic goddess (LOL nigella). the second quality that the cookbooks have to have is that i should be able to find ingredients for the recipes in singapore easily. that eliminated my newest and possibly sexiest cookbook (made in italy by giorgio locatelli) immediately. thirdly, the recipes have to be accurate and reliable. oh wells i shall wait till my les halles arrives before deciding. lalala IM FINALLY GETTING MY HAIRCUT.
